LIVE: Barrens [SE] & AFLMSMP [RO]

On Tuesday, March 24, Control turns into a space of slow builds, towering crescendos, and immersive sound as post-rock and post-metal take over.

Swedish power trio Barrens joins forces with local heroes Am Fost La Munte Și Mi-a Plăcut (aka AFLMSMP) on their 2026 European tour, stopping in Bucharest for a night of wordless narratives & instrumental intensity.

One listen to Barrens and the revelation that Markku Hildén, Johan G. Winther and Kenta Jansson had already been playing and touring together before forming the band suddenly makes sense. Now, five years in the making, their latest album "Corpse Lights" sees Barrens strike a breathtaking balance between light and dark; beauty and brutality; the calm and the chaos as the three fast friends refine their formidable command of composition and dynamic even further. It's a collection of nine pieces that guide us through five tumultuous years of highs and lows, of loves and losses and victories and defeats without ever needing to say a word.

AFLMSMP has shown an inclination towards a barefaced, riff-led take on the post-genres, inviting comparisons with bands such as Pelican and Cloudkicker (dunk!records, 2022) and If These Trees Could Talk (Everything is Noise, 2019). Fans have also generously likened AFLMSMP’s sound to bands like Russian Circles and Isis.

Following three full-length releases, as well as a few EPs and live recordings, I Went To The Mountains And I Liked It released their fourth full-length album - a self-titled record of sorts - I WENT TO THE MOUNTAIN, (February 2025), co-released by dunk!records (Belgium) and A Thousand Arms (USA). With the release of their newest record, AFLMSMP present an unrestrained, hard-hitting iteration of their brazen, riff-led take on post-rock and post-metal, as well as more than a few reveals of their other influences outside the post-genres, especially prog and stoner.
